  • Width not to exceed 2.75"
  • Length not to exceed 7"
  • Height not to exceed 4.5"
  • Weight not to exceed 5 ounces
  • Wheel bearings, washers, and bushings aren't allowed
  • No lubricating oil on the wheels, powdered graphite or silicone is allowed
  • The car shall not ride on any kind of spring
  • The car must be free wheeling with no starting devices
  • No loose materials of any kind on the car

  • No lubricating oil on the wheels, powdered graphite or silicone is allowed
  • No energy applied directly to wheels for movement
  • Nothing combustible (nothing with fire)
  • Your car can't interfere in any way with other derby cars

What categories can I enter my car?

  • Cars must pass inspection before they can race.  All decisions by the inspection team are final
  • Do not pick up or touch anyone else’s cars without permission from the owner.
  • This is a family event so please conduct yourself in an appropriate manner.  By all means cheer and have fun!  This is a race but it's meant for everyone's enjoyment

 Everyone can enter 2 cars one for each race category or both for one

  • Fastest car following BSA rules
  • Fastest car following Over Engineering rules
  • Coolest looking car by design (shape, theme, color) overall artistry in its look
  • Best engineering concept and design to improve the cars racing ability

Don't put all this effort into your car only to find out it can't race the day off. Reach out to me with any questions and remove any doubt on the validity of your design!


Antone will have all submissions denied regardless.

No worries! You don't have to be present to participate. You are welcome to mail me your entries and I will race them and make sure they get returned to you.


This is a great STEM learning activity with your kids, even if you can't make it learn with them!


I will make sure to record and share all races your car participated in if you can't be there day of!

Safety First - but in Norms case whenever he gets to it

Make safety your top priority.


  1. Gather your safety essentials: dust mask, goggles, and latex gloves.
  2. Wear eye protection at all times.
  3. Monitor Cub Scouts' use of tools.
  4. Wear a dust mask when appropriate.
  5. Work in a well-lighted and well-ventilated area.
  6. Consider wearing gloves when using sharp tools.
  7. Do not wear loose-fitting clothing.
  8. Do not melt lead; handle lead with care.
  9. Follow all safety rules and precautions listed on the tools and products you use.
  10. Keep your work area clean and organized.
